TIME WELL SPENT!!!!!!

File:Graduation cap.png

I cannot believe that we have come to the very last week of the Master’s program. The three things that are heartfelt and  have made an impact on my way of thinking are:

From my Capstone class the community of practice, I’ll always use the term "Community of Practice" when I am involved with a diverse group of people committed to making changes.

From my communications class, when I am in a conversation that may result in differences of opinion, potential conflict or intervention, I will always think about the "balcony approach" (taking a step back  listening with intent and being respectful).

From a public policy class, I feel confident and more educated about federal, state and community laws and guidelines in early education. This class has helped me in understanding the agencies  by where these laws come from and the resources that I could not have found on my own and it  has educated me on narrowing my focus for best results  while working with my public policy group.

My long term goals are to become and finish out my  last 23 years of  my career  as a professor and family relations advocate.

Professor Darragh,
I know you have  been in the field a long time and your  passion shows through pushing students to be all we can be, I have had the pleasure of speaking with you on the phone, I was always told “you can tell the heart of the person  by what and how  they speak to you” . You were very kind to me and I remember your invitation "call  back if I needed help". The way you made me feel has left a positive impact and I will model those words to my future my students , thank you!

To my colleagues , our discussions  has challenged me and educated me. You all gave me strength to go to work each day and to come back to the discussion board knowing that I would have your support and learn from your experiences. I truly felt like we were in this together.  I hope that I get the opportunity to meet some of you at July’s graduation in Maryland.

Jobs/Roles in te ECE Community : Internationaly

1. International Child Care is a Christian health development organization. Operating in Haiti since 1967 and in the Dominican Republic since 1988, ICC is working to change the conditions of poverty that impact health and well-being.

Their mission is to respond to a loving God by promoting health and well-being for the children and families of Haiti and the Dominican Republic through caring service and the education of others.

Although it does not mention positions that are open nor skills that  the organization is looking for yet it  provides guidance  for inquirers once a form is filled out.

Can I work for ICC?

Staffing needs in each of ICC’s national offices are determined by that country’s National Director. The bulk of our staff positions are in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and are staffed by residents in those program areas. In order to work as efficiently as possible, ICC has a very small North American staff. You can always contact ICC's offices to inquire about current job, internship, and volunteer opportunities.
Contact Us  International Child Care USA  240 West Michigan  Kalamazoo, MI 49007

 1-800-722-4453  1-269-382-9960
If I were a single person and not a parent, I would jump all over this! It speaks to my faith as missionary work and to the wholeness of children and families and reaching out to the community. What a beautiful way to give back while getting paid for what I love to do!

 2. Bonn E International, English Nanny and Governess Agency London to Moscow and Beyond,
Ten years’ experience in placing childcare and teaching professionals with high profile families in Russia.

Nanny salaries and wages in London and Moscow
five reasons to get international nanny jobs and governess placements and Moscow;

1. High nanny salary and low living costs

2. A job in a European European city

3. Support from us in London and Moscow

4. Travel and get cultural experience

5. Great saving opportunity!

This agency gives more of a persuasive argument as to why being an international nanny is a joyous career. The credentials assuming that you are an early educated professional.

A family Moscow is looking for a firm, flexible, communicative person, who will work five days a week 42 hours. With a pay week that personally pay $1000 plus a living room with a separate entrance. Or for preschoolers $3500 a week in pay!

The requirements this person must be a native speaker of English childcare experience with children of 3 to 5 years old preferably live in nanny experience with a bachelor’s degree and education studies, psychology, drama and languages

Profile of a Volunteer

One if my greatest accomplishments was creating a “rap session “ called Sister 2 Sister. I asked for permission from my daughter’s high school, parents  and boss if I could be granted the time to facilitate an after school meeting for girls who simply wanted  to  talk. I would leave work early on Mondays to meet with Sister 2 Sister  and stay at work on Tuesday to make up the time.

My intention was getting the “challenging girls” involved, but what I got in return were girls of all kind of backgrounds volunteering to talk in their own time. By the time the program was a year old I reached out to the mothers and other professionals to invest in my girls with their time.

The impact of running this group was very STRONG and POSITIVE.

·         I was able to walk a girl through pregnancy

·         Another through self –hate because of body image

·         Peer-pressure from family to excel through high school

·         Another dealing with the temper

·         And not giving in to sex

Everyone had their own baggage they brought to the table and everyone developed a relationship and looked out for each other during the school day.. My own take –away message working with this group for two years was listening to their circumstances with an awaken that they really did have problems. BUT the glory of the story was the sisters learned how to support each other and I earned their trust , they  also gave back by  volunteering  in  the community . We visited the retirement center to bring smiles on the elderly……. When you advocate for someone or a group  it comes back in a 100% fold in the form that is meant for purpose!

Using Social Media to Get Connected

My past experience with social media started off interesting. I had a Facebook page and connected with friends from high school, former colleagues, relatives that I had not seen in years and felt in the loop with current friends and co-workers. As time went on, I found  the benefits of the site were posting a one-time announcement or invitation, one click and the word was out.

Great right! Well the down side was I could not control the crazy things that people would post (arguments and unhealthy competition). I found myself wanting to quickly get out of the loop and I did, I haven’t been back on Facebook for four years now.

As for social media, in terms of advocating,  blogging would be the way to go . When I first started my blogging in the graduate program, I thought this would be a fine way of sharing information with parents … you know having resources, articles and stories to share. Yet through a parent meeting, I found out they do not want this…. to sign on to one more thing is not worth their while, wow!

Back to the drawing board……..

So now I’m back at Facebook…. Although I have not used it in four years I could create an educational site, I could not use my child care centers name but  if parents are on  the Facebook  media site they can link in without any problems.  Oh, just typing “link in” made me think of the site linkedin site  …. It’s not really advocating (more of networking) but I assume I could be an advocate on the site,

Meagan, as my colleague…. Can you provide some thoughts….. Help!
